EXCEL is a student success program.

EXCEL provides a unique opportunity for students that would like to have additional support, advice, and guidance obtaining an associate’s degree and/or help to transfer successfully to a four-year university.

As an EXCEL student, you will receive one-on-one attention from a supportive team that will help you accomplish your goals and connect you with the right services and resources. Navigating the college experience can be a challenge. With EXCEL, you will not be alone. We will be here to help you every step of the way.

All EXCEL Program requirements

  • Be admitted to Estrella Mountain Community College, GateWay Community College, or Glendale Community College
  • Submit high school transcripts to The Office of Admissions and Records
  • Have completed college placement exams
  • Be a US citizen or Permanent Resident*
  • Be an Arizona resident and Maricopa County resident
  • Complete the Free Application Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) [EMCC-Federal School Code 031563], [GWCC-Federal School Code 008303] and [GCC-Federal School Code 001076] and demonstrate financial need
  • Submit an EXCEL Program application
  • Enroll as a full-time student (minimum of 12 credits per semester) in an EXCEL Program approved major**
  • Must commit to the program until you have completed or transferred (2 years for new students!)

If you are a current Estrella Mountain Community College, GateWay Community College, or Glendale Community College student, you must:

  • Have earned No More that 24 transferable college credits and must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Have Free Application Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file at EMCC, GWCC, or GCC and renew it for the next academic year

* Check the list of acceptable documents to establish lawful presence

**List of EXCEL Program Approved Majors:

  • Associate in General Students (AGS)
  • Associate in Arts (AA) and AGEC A
  • Associate in Science (AS) and AGEC S
  • Associate in Business, General Requirements (ABUS-GR) and AGEC B
  • Associate in Business, Special Requirements (ABUS-GR) and AGEC B
  • Associate in Arts, Elementary Education (AAEE) and AGEC A

 

Program Expectations:

All EXCEL Program Students Must:

  • Attend school full-time (12 credits per semester)
  • Pass all classes with a minimum of a “C” while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Contact your EXCEL program coordinator at least once a month and share information about any schedule adjustments
  • Actively participate in EXCEL program activities, including the Summer Institute
  • Share information regarding your school progress and activities with the EXCEL staff

 

What is the application process?

STEP 1 - Click on EXCEL package located on the right column and read it completely

STEP 2 - Print and complete the EXCEL application located on the right column, complete all the sections carefully, including the Student and Parent/Guardian/Relative Statement of Commitment, and the Education and Record Information Release form

STEP 3 - Sign and print your name in all the requested areas.  Note: If you are under 18 years of age, have your parent/guardian sign the application with you as a way of support.

STEP 4 - Mail, drop off, or email completed application packets to the appropriate college or to the district office:

Program Eligibility:

 

Before you apply to the EXCEL Program, please confirm that you have answered "Yes" to the following questions:

For High School Students or Recent High School Students (within the last two years)

  1. Are you a high school senior OR a recent high school graduate (within the last two years)?
  2. Are you planning to enroll and attend school full-time during the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 at either Estrella Mountain, GateWay Community College, or Glendale Community Colleges?
  3. Have you completed the Maricopa Community Colleges course placement exams (all three-Reading, Math, and Writing) and placed above the development requirement level?
  4. Do you have a GPA of 2.5 or higher?
  5. Are you working toward your first degree?
  6. Are you a US citizen or Permanent Resident?
  7. Are you a resident of Maricopa county?
  8. Do you qualify to apply for the Free Application Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)?
  9. Can you demonstrate financial need based on your FAFSA?
  10. Are you willing to commit to a two to three-year program in an EXCEL approved major? (*check the list of EXCEL approved majors)
  11. Do you have a plan to balance your personal and academic responsibilities?
  12. Is your family or any relative willing to support you during your college experience?

For current college students at Estrella Mountain or Glendale Community Colleges

  1. Are you currently enrolled at EMCC or GCC?
  • If yes, have you completed no more than 24 transferable college credits?

  • Do you have a GPA of 2.5 or higher?

  1. Have you completed and passed your classes with a "C" or better?

  2.  Are you currently enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 to 15 credits per semester)?

  3. Are you working toward your first degree?

  4. Have you completed or renewed your Free Application Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and is it on file at EMCC, GWCC, or GCC?

  5. Are you willing to commit to a two to three-year program or until you complete and transfer to a university?

  6. Has your parent/guardian/spouse/or relative willing to support you during your college education?
