Book Advances

The book advance is a pre-disbursement program that allows you to use a portion of your anticipated financial aid to purchase textbooks and supplies from any business. Each semester book advances are generated to eligible students to purchase text books and supplies for upcoming classes. The book advance funds are issued through the Maricopa Student Refund Program (MSRP) and will be issued no earlier than nine business days before the start of a semester.

You must meet the following qualifications to receive a book advance per semester:

  1. Have a projected financial aid award.

  2. Must be “Opted In” on your student center.

  3. Be actively enrolled; registered for classes for the upcoming term.

  4. Financial aid award must be sufficient enough to cover outstanding account balances plus enough aid to receive a book advance based on enrollment levels.

    • The book advance amount will be based on the financial aid award and the number of credits enrolled in at the time of the book advance disbursement. If any courses are dropped that result in less number of credits after the book advance disbursement this may result in student debt.

  5. Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) must be reviewed and eligibility determined.

    • SAP evaluations occur approximately seven days after the prior semester’s course, with the latest end date, is completed. This will vary depending on each students start and end date of all courses in that semester. Students should take this into consideration during course selections for future terms

Student’s Responsibility

  • Be sure to review your class schedule for specific information about the books and supplies you will need. Book advances are not free, nor are they additional funds; they are an advance of your anticipated financial aid and are for educational expenses only.
  • You must meet all terms and conditions for your financial aid.
  • Spend the money wisely! Use the funds to purchase the required books and supplies for your classes.
  • If you receive a book advance and are later found ineligible, you are responsible for returning the funds back to your school.
  • If you receive a book advance and decide not to attend school, you are responsible for repaying the amount you received.
  • You are not permitted to purchase books for other students. Misuse of the book advance credit is in violation of federal regulations.

Special note: Not all types of financial aid are eligible to receive a book advance, and past due debts will prevent a book advance from generating. You cannot receive additional book advances above the amount you are eligible to receive. See below:
