Access to Courses or Content
Why don’t I see my course in Canvas?
You may not see your course in Canvas if your instructor has not yet published the course. This could happen if it is prior to the start of the semester, or if the instructor does not use Canvas. Check the start date of your course.
How do I access my course after the end of the semester?
You can view courses that have ended by going to Past Enrollments in the All Courses listing. If you do not see the course under Past Enrollments, your instructor has restricted access to the course. If the course ended more than 18 months ago, it no longer exists in Canvas.

My Canvas Settings
How do I customize my profile and user settings?
Profile allows you to update your name, photo, preferred contact methods, and any personal links for your account.Settings gives you access to your preferred methods of receiving notifications.

How do I set preferences for the notifications I receive from Canvas?
You can customize notifications to be sent to your email, SMS text message and Twitter. Once you add contact methods in user Settings, set notification preferences to select how often you want to be notified of course events.

How do I privately respond to an individual in a larger conversation?
You can privately respond to the sender in a larger, group conversation. For instructions on how to do this, view the guide for How do I privately respond to an individual in a larger Conversation?
To ensure you are replying to the correct person, double check the “To” field before sending.
How do I send a message to my instructor?
You can send a conversation (message) to one or more people in a course, including your instructor. For instructions on how to do this, view the guide for How do I compose and send a message?
Why am I not able to receive my instructor's messages sent from Canvas?
All Canvas conversations are available in the Canvas Inbox. For instructions on how to view them, see the guide for How do I find my unread messages in Conversations?
If you are not seeing Canvas messages in your email account, check your Canvas account notification settings and ensure you have Conversation Messages forwarded to your email. For instructions on how to set your Canvas Notifications, view the guide for How do I set my Notification Preferences?
How do I download my assignment submissions?
You can download all of your assignment submissions from all of your classes, including current and past courses.

How do I upload a file from Google Drive as an Assignment submission in Canvas?
Canvas will require you to authorize access to your Google Drive account. You can enable Google Drive in your user profile, or you can grant access while submitting the assignment.

How do I add images to my Assignment submission?
You can add images to your assignment, either as part of a text entry assignment, or as your entire submission.

What if I go over the time limit in a quiz?
If you are taking a timed quiz, the timer starts counting once you begin the quiz. The timer shows the running time and counts down until time expires. The timer will not pause if you navigate away from the page so it is important that you finish the quiz once the timer begins. If you are taking the quiz close to the due date or lock date/time, Canvas generates warning messages to help you manage your time in the quiz.
If you do not submit your quiz before the time limit or before the assignment is locked, the quiz is auto-submitted and time documented when the time expires. Any questions that were not answered will be scored as incorrect.

How do I submit an assignment in Turnitin?
Submitting a Turnitin assignment is similar to submitting a regular online assignment. Turnitin measures assignment originality and indicates what percent of your assignment matches Internet sources or other student submissions. Be sure to view the assignment summary before submitting your assignment.

How do I access assigned papers in Canvas Peer Reviews?
Your instructor can assign you to review another student's assignment. You can view peer review notifications in Canvas in the Recent Activity Stream, the To Do list, and from the individual assignment page. Once peer reviews are assigned, you will also be notified via email. Click on the link in any of these places to access your peer’s paper for review.

How do I review the feedback in Canvas Peer Reviews?
To view your peers’ feedback on your assignment, go to the Grades page. Click on the name of the assignment that was reviewed. You may see comments from your peers on the right side of the page. To see comments made directly on your assignment, click the View Feedback link in the center of the page.

How do I complete a Peer Review in Canvas?
Your instructor may require you to submit a peer review of another student's assignment. To complete the assignment, you must review the student's assignment and add a comment in the comment sidebar. If your instructor has requested you provide feedback using Crocodoc, click on the View Feedback button to view the assignment within Crocodoc.

How do I download and print annotated feedback?
If your instructor provides comments directly on your submitted document using the Crocodoc annotation tool, you can download your paper with the comments included.

Why can’t I access my assignment?
You may not be able to access your assignments or course content for a variety of reasons:
- The assignment or content may not be published. Check with your instructor.
- It may have availability dates or restriction dates that are in the future. When you click on the assignment, it will state when it will be made available.
- You may be required to view content, take quizzes or submit assignments prior to gaining access. The module will state any prerequisites required to access content.
Why am I unable to upload a file for an assignment?
There are a few possible reasons:
- Not all file types may be available to upload to the assignment, depending on the assignment submission type set by your instructor.
- Not all of your assignments may be able to be submitted online. If you cannot see the Submit Assignmentlink, your instructor may want you to submit your assignment in a different way or the availability date has passed. View the description of the assignment for instructions, or contact your instructor for assistance.
- If you feel you are encountering a technical issue, try uploading your file using different browsers and make sure your browsers are up-to-date. If you are still encountering technical issues, contact the 24x7 toll-free assistance number located on this site.

How do I know if my assignment was submitted?
View the assignment submission details to know you have turned in the assignment.

How can I view my grade and how is it calculated?
You can click on Grades from your course’s global navigation window. The Grades page in a course displays all grades for all course assignments. You can also view scoring details, comments, and rubrics. If your instructor weights grades (check your syllabus), you will also see that on the Grades page.

How do I estimate my grades?
You can project what your grade in a course would be with possible assignment scores using the What-If feature in the gradebook. This feature allows you to enter possible or target grades to see how your overall grade in the course would be impacted. You can enter possible scores for an assignment that already includes a score, or an assignment that has yet to be graded.

How do I see my current grade as a percentage of the final grade?
Your current grade is calculated based on the value of all graded assignments in the course. To see your current grade as a percentage of your final grade, you can change the view in your Grades page. Un-check the box that says calculate based only on ungraded assignments.

How do I view my grades in a previous course?
You can view grades for courses that have ended.

Why can I no longer see my grades?
You can view your grades for courses that have ended by going to Past Enrollments in the All Courses listing. If you do not see the course under Past Enrollments, your instructor has restricted access to the course and you will need to check in your Maricopa Student Center to see your final grade.
If you are unable to access grades in a current course, it is possible your instructor has disabled Grades from the course. Contact your instructor for more information.

How do I review feedback in my assignments?
Assignment feedback can be provided in a few different ways depending on how your instructor is using Canvas. Once you access the assignment from the Grades page by clicking on the assignment name, you have three areas that may or may not contain feedback:
- Comments (located in the right panel)
- Assignment Annotations (notes directly on the uploaded file)
- Rubric (feedback tool attached to the assignment near the grade field)

Why don't I see my assignments in the Calendar?
You may not see your assignments in the Calendar if:
- The assignment or course is not published in Canvas.
- You have more than ten courses displaying in the calendar. You will need to hide a course from the calendar before you can see a new one. Click on the color box to the left of the course name to hide or show that course on the calendar.
- Your assignment does not have a Due Date. Assignments without due dates can be found below the list of courses under Undated Items.

Is Canvas available on my mobile device?
The Canvas by Instructure app is the mobile version of Canvas that helps you stay current with your courses anywhere you go. It is important to note you should not expect to accomplish all aspects of an online course solely on a mobile device.
